Game of Thrones madness is sweeping across the globe, and this season is arguably the best yet. Much like the yoga community, Game of Thrones fans are from different backgrounds and places around the world.
Here are some poses that you can practice to channel characters from Game of Thrones. Spoiler alert! For those who haven’t seen the latest season, this is a warning.
Tolasana/Utthita Padmasana: Scale Pose or Raised Lotus Pose
Sansa Stark, like a lotus emerging from the mud, is making a comeback and finding her way after her nightmare time in King’s Landing with the Boltons and Winterfell.
Utkata Konasana – Goddess Pose
Melisandre is a Red Priestess who is devoted to the Divine and much more powerful than people expected. This pose will help her to channel the strength and power of the feminine!
Tadasana – Mountain Pose
You must know what is coming… practice Tadasana and visualize yourself as The Mountain.
Sir Gregor Clegane, as his name suggests, is 8 feet tall and incredibly unmovable. To feel as stable as The Mountain, spread your toes out and press your four corners into the ground.
Bhujangasana – Cobra Pose
Oberyn Martell met a tragic end when he faced The Mountain. Before that, his combat style was well-known in the Seven Kingdoms, earning him the nickname Red Viper.
Svargadvijasana- Bird of Paradise Poses
Dvija is a word that means “twice-born.” Like a bird who is born first as an egg and then “reborn” into a bird, Daenerys was born again. She is graceful, patient, and firm at times – exactly the mindset required to master this pose.
Pincha Mayurasana – Feathered Peacock Pose
Cersei Lannister grew up in luxury and wealth. She wears silk gowns, and she takes great pride in herself.
Cersei, the Queen of Cersei’s family, is known for her aggressive and fierce peacocks.
Virasana – Hero Pose
It feels like our heroes on Game of Thrones are disappearing like flies, but one man in particular remains and is a true hero. Jon Snow.
Hanuman is devoted to honor and loyalty to his brothers and friends. Hanuman, the monkey God said to embody “vira” or hero, is attributed through his actions and accomplishments…and one of his most iconic poses is the vipassana, the hero pose.
Virabhadrasana II – Warrior II
Brienne Of Tarth has become an unstoppable force and is someone that you shouldn’t underestimate. Ask The Hound. This energizing, stabilizing pose captures her strength both physically and mentally.
Sphinx – Salamba Bhujangasana
The Sphinx’s famous riddle asked, “What is that creature which walks on four feet in the morning, and two legs at noon, and three legs in the evening?” The Spider is known for his network around the kingdom of spies but is also an expert manipulator who speaks in code and is a master of games.
Kakasana – Crow Pose
The Three-Eyed Crow (or Raven, as he’s called in the show) is a wise creature who teaches Bran Stark to master his powers. Crows were revered in ancient myths for their intelligence, wisdom, and ability to fly. This is what you are doing when you take off.
