Yoga Secrets for Work: 14 Ways To Practice Yoga When It Feels Inconvenient

Craving that mid-afternoon stretch, or missed your 6 am class, but you’re stuck at work? Don’t worry; we’ve got your back! Getting creative, we’ve got some ideas on how to sneak a little yoga into your workday without anyone knowing any better. So, let’s start working these yoga postures into the nooks and crannies of our days!

Your Desk

Fold forward while seated in your chair. Stretch your frontal shoulders and get all the blood flowing back to your head. This will give you energy and help to inspire your thoughts.

Pigeon position is a great way to release your lower back while sitting at your desk. Cross your legs in a figure-four position. Continue to hold this position for ten breaths on each side.

In a Meeting

You won’t lose impressive eye contact with your boss if you use eagle arms to stretch out your upper body during a presentation on Microsoft PowerPoint. “I am totally listening to every word!”

You can do hand yoga while on the phone or using Skype. This prevents carpal tunnel syndrome and tendonitis. You can print out these yoga mudras for your desk.

Sit Lotus or Double Pigeon on your chair. You can even hide your legs by the tabletop so that no one knows you are taking long, smooth breaths or meditating while your eyes open.

The Copier

Drop a pen “accidentally” on the floor of the copier, and then do the Pyramid pose to get it back. You’ve got to love the hamstring stretch.

While you wait for your print job, come into Tree Pose. Balancing shapes improves concentration, after all!

You can do this by bracing your hands and standing in a Cat-Cow shape. No one will doubt your exasperation with the machine if you act as if it is merely a nuisance.

Retail Work

While checking out, people behind the cash register sit or stand on Eagle legs.

When you are stocking shelves or scanning inventory, it is a good time to lower yourself into a yoga squat or side lunge.

Move Around the Workplace

As you walk around the office, swing your arms out or up to get that High Lunge/Warrior Two feel. Get your blood flowing!

Warrior Three can be used to water office plants. You and your office plants will both benefit from this product.

Write a report or update Quickbooks

Practice oceanic breathing while doing mundane tasks like creating a spreadsheet to remain oxygenated and focused. Start by counting four seconds each for inhalation and exhalation, then gradually increase to eight seconds.

As you enter data, do some Cat-Cow posing in your chair.

Benefits of Yoga during the Workday include increased focus and concentration, decreased anxiety and stress at work, and simply being a healthier and more productive person.
