Yoga props are wonderful tools for beginners as well as seasoned practitioners. We can all benefit greatly from them, whether as an occasional support or as a tool to elevate our practice. You probably already have your favorite yoga props, but here are some new ones you might want to try to mix things up a little.
Yoga Wheels
Have you tried the yoga wheel yet? The hollow wheel, which comes in a few sizes and brands and is available in a variety of shapes and sizes, looks simple but can provide a great deal of support and help for your asana practices.
Yoga wheels are used to make backbends easier and safer. They can also be used for Restorative Yoga, hip openers, or gentle backbends.
Use the wheel to support your forearm balances. By holding on to the closest side of the yoga wheel and pressing your back of the head onto the wheel gently, you can gain additional balance support.
Yoga Swings
This variation is perfect for aerial yoga fans! The use of swings and slings enhances the anti-gravity benefits of yoga. You can do this at home without having to remodel your house.
The freestanding swings have their stand, and although they may look similar to aerial yoga (depending on the version you choose), there are many additional features.
You can use the anti-gravity assister to maintain balance and ease your weight in inversions. You can also practice standing poses more easily than with a normal aerial silk. This prop will be a blessing to your spine.
Yoga Blocks Non-Traditional
There are many shapes of blocks available to assist with your practice. There’s a shape and use for each pose, from triangular to cylinder.
The egg-shaped block is my personal favorite because it fits the body better and feels more comfortable.
This prop works best when placed under the back in a lengthwise position (or two blocks can be used next to each other for greater comfort). It opens up my back. There are different types of blocks. Some are designed for weight-bearing poses, and others for general support.
Yoga Socks
Do you want to travel light and not bring a yoga mat with you? These funky but non-slip socks are a great alternative. These socks are perfect for winter, extra warmth for Yin Yoga, or extra grip for a yoga mat.
Yoga socks are a great way to add to your practice. The socks’ grip allows you to keep your feet planted on any surface (for extra fluid transitions). Just throw them in your bag, and you can take your practice anywhere.
These new props will elevate your practice, whether you’re a traditional practitioner or not. They are also fun!
