11 Yoga Poses to Do while watching Game of Thrones

This season of Game of Thrones (Game of Thrones) has been a roller coaster of emotions. A fascinating whirlwind of intrigue, chaos, destruction, and romance through Westeros and beyond the wall. Every episode is packed with in-your-face action, layers of subtle detail, and beautifully crafted cinematography and acting.

The yoga poses have been designed to help you center and balance your body (the north body is a good reminder) so that you can focus on GoT. Winter yoga is here.

Build up some heat before facing the Night King’s army. Perform three to five rounds each of Surya Namaskar (Sun salutation A) or Surya Namaskar (Sun salutation B). Take time during this warm-up to focus on your intentions for the practice. Yoga is about connecting with yourself, but this practice has the added challenge that your attention will be drawn to external forces, such as the drama in Westeros.

This challenge could be to your advantage. In an hour, you will probably experience many emotions. Take the time to watch Game of Thrones and notice your reactions. If, for example, the last moments of Season 7, Episode 6 made you cry, then become aware of that feeling and be a witness. You can use this method to make your yoga practice while watching Game of Thrones intentional and educational.

1-2. Strike Two or More Warriors

In general, the first few minutes of each episode are used to summarize what happened in previous episodes, which will be informative for this one. They also allow time for opening credits and the Game of Thrones theme music. It is a good time to prepare, center, and balance yourself for an upcoming episode that will most likely be heart-wrenching and dramatic.

It’s time to channel the warriors of the past like Brienne, Yara, Greyjoy, and Jamie Lannister in Virabhadrasana 1 and 2 (Warrior Pose 1, 2).

Flying Dragon Pose

Flying Dragon Pose, inspired by the mother dragon, is an expansive, spine-strengthening asana with IT bands that boost power and nobility.

Modified Grasshopper Pose

Grasshoppers can jump from danger with ease and have a powerful impact on their legs, just like Littlefinger and Varys. Both men have unusual ears; Littlefinger has a pair of ears on his belly, and Varys and Littlefinger have spies everywhere. The modified grasshopper pose helps to stretch your IT band and provides a gentle twist in the spine. It also allows you to get maximum viewing of Game of Thrones.

Radiant Heart with Figure Four Legs

This gentle backbend, with the pelvis tilted forward intentionally, opens the heart and allows it to radiate life and sun. This powerful stretch is done with both feet resting on the floor. Staying here for a couple of minutes will allow you to channel the spine strength and self-confidence of the sand snakes.

Double Pigeon Pose With the Option of Eagle Arms

This pose creates an alliance between the hips and shoulders of the South (a powerful combo), so beware, White Walkers. This pose was inspired by the naive and hopeful wish that North and South would unite in order to fight tightness, a.k.a. The White Walkers.

Cow Face Pose

Cows, like the Unsullied, are loyal, stoic, and hardworking, with layers of hidden emotion. The Grey Worm Pose would also work, but Gomukhasana is easier to do and gives a deeper hip and shoulder stretch. This pose should be done on blankets or blocks to protect your knees and ankles.

Deer Pose with Stag Variation

Bharadvajasana plus Deer Pose = Game of Thrones-inspired Stag Pose. Gendry has returned, and we can now practice our newly forged Stag Pose in honor of House Baratheon.

Imagine yourself sitting on the Iron Throne with your spine straight, chin raised, and looking regal (as Gendry!)

Boat Pose with Optional Charging Legs

Euron’s Iron Fleet is a powerful and tough force. We may disagree on tactics, opinions, and other things, but we can agree on one thing: it is a strong and commanding force. You can channel your muscle power in Navasana, also known as the Boat Pose. Charge your legs forward one at a time to add extra core work. When the legs are moving, the spine must remain strong and elongated.

Hero Pose Variation

Try a variation on Virasana. When practicing with your left leg behind you, focus on Dany to encourage yin energy. Focus on Jon while practicing with the left leg back to foster yang energy.

Lion Pose

Simhasana, or the Lion Pose, is a great way to relieve tension in your body. As you breathe out in Lion Pose, if the night was particularly stressful, consider cute baby lion pictures. You can choose to either have your legs in full lotus or with the knees spread wide.

The sequence is meant to be fun and lighthearted, but you can make it yours. Add other poses if you wish. You can channel House Stark’s wolf pup with Uttana Shishosana, or Melisandre could inspire you to do Malasana with a fiery flair.

If you don’t want to support House Greyjoy, you can cut out other poses. For example, nix Navasana or the Boat Pose. Enjoy, and please feel free to share any GoT-inspired yoga poses below.
