What makes a teacher great? That’s a bit like asking, “What makes a good day?”
Here are a few quick tips to help you become a great yoga teacher.
Be Awesome
To begin with, being an awesome person is what makes a teacher awesome. You need to be awesome and let the world know it! Let your coolness shine!
What do you want to be? What are you?
Teaching is the best way to improve yourself. You need to be the best version of yourself when you teach, an expression that combines love, knowledge, and kindness.
It does not mean that you have to be fake. Give it your best every time.
Be Real
You must also be honest about your past, present, and future struggles and challenges. Our failures and real experiences are the best way to teach.
You will not have anything to teach if your life is and has always been perfect. Of all the people, it is usually the brokenest ones who make the best educators. They are able to relate to others with compassion and understanding because they have been through enough.
The more mud you use, the better your flower. Teach what you know from your own life experiences.
- Showing your limitations will make your students more comfortable.
- You will lose the opportunity to learn new things if you pretend you know something that you don’t.
Don’t pretend to be Indian by wearing Indian clothing and speaking Sanskrit if you’re not. Don’t pretend to be all Om Shanti, relaxed and calm. People will notice.
You have gifts that someone will need. There is nothing good for everyone, and everything is good for someone.
Give your genuine gifts, and you will be doing someone a great favor.
Be New
Don’t follow the crowd. There are many yoga teachers. Make it yours. Make it your own!
What are your passions and interests? What do you excel at? What has your entire life been about?
When you decide to teach yoga, you don’t have to let go of all those things. The evolution of life is more important than revolution. Everything you do from now on will be based on the experiences and achievements you’ve had in the past.
Combining passions can be a great idea to create something new. There are many possibilities, and people have come up with such ideas as:
Kids Yoga. Partner Yoga. Senior Yoga. Aqua Yoga. Yoga and weightlifting. Doga. Yoga with your dog. Yoga on exercise balls. Yoga Fight Club. Yoga and martial arts. Yoga Canvas and Cabernet. Yoga, painting, and wine. Yoga for Surfers. Yoga for Golfers. Equestrian Yoga. Naked Yoga. Acro Yoga. Aerial Yoga.
Yoga has evolved over the years. Even the “traditional” teacher training for yoga has little that is similar to what was called yoga 100 years ago.
Do not be like others! Style is important! Dare to live! Experiment!
Be Now.
Don’t wait to know everything before you start teaching! You don’t need to wait until you have all the answers before you begin training.
You don’t have to wait until you’re perfect to start teaching, as no one is. As you teach, you learn. You learn as you go.
You will lose your energy and stagnate if you wait. Share yourself with the rest of the world right now!
Be the Change
What is the job description of a yoga instructor?
It is my opinion that it makes people happy. You are amazing – we are all on our way! You are going to change this world one person at a time, not by talking but by simply being you, the amazing you that you now have free.
